When I was in college I worked for a citizen activist group called Clean Water Actoin (CWA). My job was to (literally) go door to door and get people to donate to the organization so that we could help support research, buy lobby congress, an fund efforts to organize and protect the water shed.
Now, most people don't realize it but it is non-profit organizations such as this which make sure citizens like us have an acceptable living standard (such as clean drinking water). Yes the government enforces environmental protection laws but those laws are protected by organizations such as CWA. In the same way, Lyceum Recordz is a for-profit record label that is working so that American citizens are properly informed about the environment, science, philosophy, economic injustice, and societal conditions so that they may make their own informed decisions.
My experience at CWA made me realize, more than ever, that in the capitalist society we live in, we truly vote with our money. That's not hard to see in any aspect of American culture. A restaurant will stop carrying frog legs and take it off the menu if no one buys them. If we all started riding bicycles to work the price of gas would go down in order to compensate for the loss in demand. Money and campaign contributions while running for president is all but a requirement in-order to win the election. And, all the banking institutions put a block on Wikileaks funding in order to quiet it's voice:
With that said, if you want more albums like Edulution you are going to have to show me that it is worth spending money on. If you go to my BandCamp profile you will see that I have set an appropriate minimum donation amount (free/email address to 89 cents) for every song or poem. I also listed the album's minimum donation price at $3.99. Although I think the project is worth around $10+ I understand that people have their own ideas of the contents worth so I would like you to set your own price.
If I am ever going to work with a reputable member of the music industry (i.e. a "big name" artist); I'm gonna need to show them that I have (at least) a loyal fan base that supports my movement and is willing to make purchases if I give (my) fans an opportunity to buy official, "polished" releases. For these reasons, if you are a real fan, and want to see me succeed, I need your help and support!
"Men lie, women lie, numbers don't!" - Jay-ZJust remember, money talks, and it talks loudly, so the best way to let me know I am doing something right is by making a purchase! I want to give my fans every opportunity to support the music so here are the ways you can purchase items and contribute to the music at a any price level... and every little bit helps! The EDULUTION Album is available on iTunes ($10), Amazon mp3 ($8), and BandCamp ($4). Even the purchase of one song on iTunes (.99), Amazon (.89), or BandCamp (variable, free to .89) helps! Your support is greatly appreciated!
